God’s Word is not Dead, It’s Alive, Active, Relevant

I came across this statement, ‘The Bible may be old, but it’s not outdated,’ these words resonated with me. The Word of God is alive and active [Hebrews 4 vs 12 (NIV)]. We just need to look around at what is taking place in the world to realize that. The Bible also speaks to our own individual situations past, present and future.

Some view the Bible has being outdated, because it is not aligned with their own thoughts, values, desire and general trends of the world. Some of the ideas being branded about are diametrically opposed to the instructions of God. Consequently, the conclusion is that the word of God is outdated. We do not want to do what it says, we want to have our own way.

We want the Bible to conform to our lives, instead of us conforming to the Bible

James 1 vs 22 says that we should “not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Reading the Bible is essential in any Christians’ life, but if we do not follow it, what is the use of reading it in the first place? It provides instructions whereby we can live our lives.

The Bible is the main way through which God speaks to us. It would therefore do us well to read it and to do so often. In reading the Bible, we get answers to our questions, we find solutions to our problems, it teaches us about love, family, friends etc. you name it you can find it in the Bible.

Perhaps you are having difficulty understanding or relating to what the Bible says. I encourage you to pray before and after you read any scripture. Asking God for wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

Dear Lord,

We thank you for your words which are alive and active. They are a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. As we read your word, may we become doers of your word. Let a love and passion develop within us for the Bible. May we find answer to life situation in it. Give us clarity in the areas that seem murky. We thank you that the Word is still relevant today and that through the power of Your Holy Spirit we will be able to live them out in our daily lives, In Jesus’ name.

Amen.
